Being a university student comes with a lot of responsibilities and the obstacles along your academic journey but refusing to back down is the only way to win.
“I was perplexed at first when I reached home and then, later on, I felt like a boss of some sort,” says a UJ student.
“Black is beautiful, Black don’t crack, dark and lovely” are terms loosely used in the black community to appreciate the darkness of the skin of African people with dark pigmentation but all this love and appreciation is merely a pretence because a considerable majority prefer a lighter tone of skin. It is no secret that the darker you are the more likely you are to face discriminatory derogatory remarks from fellow Black people.
As much as the #Feesmustfall campaign has sparked a national debate about the effect of fees on the poor South African citizen, there’s a small bunch of people that fee increments affect even more and those are international students.
